Kantini is a cashless payment system for schools in Uganda. Parents put money into their child's school wallet from their phone, and the student pays at the school canteen with a palm. No cash to lose, no card to forget, and no phone needed at school.
Children carry cash to school because there has been no alternative. It gets lost, taken, or spent on things a parent never agreed to, and by the end of the day nobody can say where it went. Schools handle notes and coins they are not equipped to reconcile, and parents find out what was bought only if their child chooses to mention it.
Kantini replaces that with a wallet a parent controls. They can set a daily spending limit, freeze the wallet from their phone, and see every purchase as it happens. Where a school allows it, a student can also draw cash at an authorised desk for things they need outside school — under the same limits and the same palm check as any other payment.

Both founders are civil engineering graduates of Uganda Christian University. Kantini is built and operated in Kampala, for Ugandan schools, by people who went to them.
We take a small commission on canteen purchases, paid by the merchant rather than by the parent. Depositing money is free, and no commission is taken when a student draws cash. We do not sell data and we do not run advertising.
A wallet balance is money a parent has entrusted to us for their child, and we treat it that way. Balances are held and moved only by our servers; a terminal cannot alter one by itself, and every payment is recorded against the till that took it.
Palms never leave the school as images. The scanner produces a mathematical template that cannot be turned back into a palm and opens nothing outside Kantini. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is stored, where, and how to have it deleted.
Kantini LTD is registered and operating in Kampala, Uganda. The platform is in testing ahead of our first school pilot.
