These terms govern your use of Kantini. By creating an account you accept them.
Kantini is a prepaid wallet for school payments. You deposit money, your child spends it at approved school terminals, and you see where it went.
Kantini is not a bank. Your balance is not a deposit account, it earns no interest, and it is not covered by deposit insurance.
Deposits are made through Pesapal using mobile money. Funds appear once Pesapal confirms the payment. If a payment is taken but the balance does not update, contact us with the reference and we will trace it.
Your child spends by fingerprint at an approved terminal. Every payment is checked against the balance and against any daily limit you set. You can freeze a wallet at any time from the app, and a frozen wallet cannot be spent or drawn against.
Some schools let a student draw cash against the wallet at an authorised desk. The same fingerprint check, balance check, and daily limit apply. Not every terminal can pay out cash; only those the school has authorised.
You may ask for a remaining balance to be returned at any time. We return it to the mobile money number that funded the account. Ask before closing your account, as deletion does not refund a balance automatically.
Kantini takes a commission on canteen purchases, paid by the merchant rather than by you. No commission is charged on a cash withdrawal. If we ever introduce a fee payable by parents, we will tell you in the app before it starts.
Enrolment is done at school with your consent. We store a mathematical template and never an image. You may withdraw consent at any time, and we will delete the template; your child then pays by being looked up at the till instead. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
We may suspend an account we reasonably believe is being used fraudulently. If we do, we will tell you why, and any legitimate balance remains yours.
We work to keep Kantini running during school hours, but we do not guarantee it is always available. Maintenance, network failures, and problems at our payment provider can interrupt it. Where possible we warn you in advance.
We are responsible for the correctness of the balance we hold for you, and for processing your instructions properly. Nothing in these terms removes a liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
We are not responsible for a school's own decisions, for what a student buys, for money lost because you shared access to your phone number, or for failures at your mobile money provider.
You may close your account at any time — see Delete your account. We may close an account that has been dormant for a long period, or where we are required to, and we will give you notice and return any balance.
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Kantini after that means you accept it.
These terms are governed by the laws of Uganda, and the courts of Uganda have jurisdiction over any dispute.
